A manufacturer’s signal, not a rule
Sherwin-Williams selected Universal Khaki SW 6150 as its 2026 Color of the Year. That selection is a manufacturer’s design forecast, not a survey proving it is Houston’s favorite paint. It gives homeowners one recognizable example of the warm-neutral direction to consider.

Read the room before choosing the color
In your Houston home, begin with the elements that will stay: flooring, cabinets, countertops, brick or large furniture. Place samples beside those surfaces rather than judging a color against an empty white screen. A neutral can look quite different next to another neutral.
Compare the same sample in more than one part of the room. A corner near a window and a wall farther from daylight may give different impressions. Look again with your usual evening lighting before making a whole-room decision.
Use a small palette with a clear purpose
Decide whether the walls should recede behind your furniture or become a noticeable part of the room. A warmer midtone can create a different mood from a pale cream even when both are described as neutral.
Include the trim and ceiling in the discussion. You may want contrast, or you may prefer a quieter transition between surfaces. Ask to review the actual products and finish options; the generated image in this article is a mood reference and cannot reproduce a branded paint color accurately.
- Bring photographs of the finishes you will keep.
- Compare physical samples under your own lighting.
- Record the exact selected color name and code.
- Discuss walls, trim, doors and ceilings separately.
- Ask what preparation and surface repair are included.
Keep the painting scope as clear as the palette
A color decision is only part of the work. Explain whether furniture will remain in the room, which areas need protection and whether you want existing texture or visible imperfections assessed. For a commercial space, include access needs and operating hours.
Jolon Pro can discuss painting as a standalone project or as part of a larger remodel. Share your location, room photos and shortlisted colors to start a quote conversation. Choose the finish that suits your space, even if your favorite is not the color of the year.
